Público alvo: profissionais da saúde de instituições brasileiras

Objeto da proposta

To establish a strong, sustainable, interdisciplinary research collaboration between academic researchers from Brazil and the UK that will focus on building standardized approaches to the prevention, surveillance and care of post-caesarean SSI. This will connect primary health care actions, SSI surveillance and hospital care

Resumo das ações e atividades

The research teams from the EEUSP and University of Nottingham already have a track record of successful collaborative work. What is expected with this project is to expand the number and scope of collaborators to now include federal and state universities in the Amazon region in Brazil, in order to build a network of Brazilian researchers in partnership with UK experts in implementation research, on the topic of prevention and control of SSI in caesarean section. The Amazon region has a shortage of qualified researchers in addition to having peculiarities in terms of health care that have been little studied. It was considered that this would be an opportunity to qualify researchs and researchers in this region in addition to better understanding and proposing solutions for health care in this location.

Our previous experience has showed that visiting and working face-to-face rather than distally resulted in considerable benefits with more efficient and rapid progress of work. Thus, funding is requested to allow such face-to-face activity for the newly extended network. Furthermore, visiting the partner country and meeting their clinician and managers would ensure the UK and Brazilian researchers gain a better insight and understanding of the Brazilian context and current SSI situation.

Such in-depth understanding would benefit the design, conduct and implementation of future research collaborations and ensure greater relevance and applicability of the findings. At an institutional level, the benefit would be new, relevant and representative research for all universities. To build one sustainable research network can bring global public health benefits by contributing to knowledge generation relevant to the south america.

FUTURE PLANS: During the Networking week, the main outcome is to draft a research proposal focusing on prevention and surveillance of SSI in caesarean section with the intention of submitting an application for a larger grant from the Global Challenges Research Programme and CNPq – Brazil
